Indigenous-owned. Artist-designed.

Description:

Designed by K’ómoks and Kwakwaka’wakw artist Andy Everson, this premium fleece blanket transforms traditional Northwest Coast box imagery into a bold, contemporary piece for the home.

The design is printed in rich, saturated colour on ultra-soft fleece. On the reverse, it appears again as a softer tonal echo, giving both sides of the blanket a finished appearance. Warm without being heavy, it is generously sized for relaxing at home, displaying as textile art or giving as a meaningful gift.

The Story Behind the Design

Long before European contact, our ancestors used blankets for warmth, clothing, trade and ceremony. Blankets were often decorated with family crests and were also exchanged as a form of wealth.

Our ancestors stored their most prized possessions in beautifully decorated boxes called k̓awat̓si. Some displayed the animal crest of a particular family’s first ancestor. Boxes made for trade were commonly painted with images that were not exclusive to one family or tribe, including human figures and the Chief of the Undersea. Andy created this Treasure Box design in that artistic tradition.
