Copper Legacy
Copper Legacy was registered in 2019 by Erin Brillon (Kalaga Jaad) — Haida of the Laana T'aadas Eagle Clan, with Cree ancestry, and founder of Totem Design House — alongside co-founder Carla Voyageur (Maxmuwidzumga) of the Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw and Nisga'a Nations.
It is a registered non-profit society based at 3240 Comox Road in Courtenay, British Columbia, on the territory of the K'ómoks First Nation.
Its mandate is direct: the empowerment of Indigenous people. Generations of Indigenous families in Canada are still living with the aftermath of the residential school system and the policies that came with it — the loss of language, the interruption of cultural practice, and the gaps in health care, mental health services, employment and education that followed. Copper Legacy exists to fund Indigenous-designed responses to that, rather than programs designed elsewhere and delivered inward.
