We’ve all been there: the summer months are zipping by and you’re too busy to take time out of your day to relax. If you’re not careful, it slips by altogether and—before you know it—the kids are heading back to school. What I have to say is this: get out there and live! Slip away with your partner to the beach, get out into the woods or go someplace exciting. Let your summer build into a crescendo!

One of the markers of summer for me is watching dragonflies flit in and out of the grassy meadows. Like prehistoric creatures from another time, these beautiful, brightly-coloured insects are simply a joy to watch. Their diminutive size does nothing to belittle the effect they have on the viewer. Zig-zagging, hovering and glowing with their iridescent sheen, they belie logic. I marvel that such a small creature can have such a magnificent presence.

Sometimes the most memorable moments of summer are the most quiet…. Walking down to the beach through the tall grass, you encounter a dragonfly. It flies straight past you to lie in still repose on a tall stalk of grass. In that moment, you are transfixed and transported into another realm. It is an instant of connection where both you and the dragonfly are still and part of the same environment. The world fades away and you live in the moment. This is your loud boom of summer…your pinnacle…your climax. The smallest and quietest things can have an enormous impact. This is your summer’s crescendo.

“Summer’s Crescendo” is a limited edition print using the giclée method of printmaking. This print was released in August of 2016 and printed by Andy Everson at the artist’s own studio in Comox B.C. A total of 184 prints bear the title “Summer’s Crescendo” and are signed by Andy Everson: 150 in the primary edition bearing the numbers 1/150 through 150/150; 15 Artist’s Proofs; 15 Remarques and 4 Printer’s Proofs. The acid-free Moab Entrada 100% cotton rag paper measures about 11x17 inches. Image size measures about 9.5x14.5 inches.
