Majestic Raven I Edition of 20

Majestic Raven I Edition of 20

$200.00
Description:

Art by Jesse Brillon.

The Raven, in Haida culture, is one of the most highly revered of all the animals. Known primarily as the trickster, at times is a down right nuisance; we also understand that humans would not have come to be if not for Raven prying them them from the inside of a clam shell. Nor would the sun and moon be released into the sky had Raven not liberated them. As much as Raven is known to be a troublemaker, he is equally respected for his curiosity, after all, it led him to the most crucial uncovery of the Haida people, as our origin stories recount.

Typically Northwest Coast art prints are offered in editions of 99 to199. Rather than run one edition of 99, we decided to experiment at Wachiay Studio—which has an open door policy for artists seeking to be hands on in the creation of their work— to test out varying color ways in smaller editions. The colouring is done by Erin Brillon, Jesse’s sister. Growing up surrounded by Northwest Coast art, the pair have been inspired to push the limits of the traditional forms and colors, to invigorate the designs with non-traditional color with clothing and home decor items with their company Totem Design House.
